- Ally: A bright, self-confident, homeschooled young teen who loves her life just as it is. She enjoys nature, science, and stargazing. Her dream in life is to find a comet and name it after herself.
- Kenny: Ally's science-loving, ten-year-old brother.
- Bree: Beautiful, popular, and destined to be a model. Bree has always suspected she was switched at birth, as she is nothing like her scientist parents.
- Melanie: Happily turns cartwheels in public, is unconcerned about being cool, and actually likes watching PBS documentaries. Melanie is a confident 11-year-old geek.
