Queen Maude could not bear an heir to the throne of King Gregor, and turned in desperation to King Under Stone, a banished magician and evil practitioner of witchcraft. He gave her a potion investing her with the power to bear twelve daughters, but no male heir. Any deal with a wicked person must end badly, however; Queen Maude is required to dance at the Midnight Ball, at the King’s underworld palace, every third night. Upon her death, her daughters must attend and dance every night until the debt is paid. Galen, a soldier returning to his country after a recent war, is destined to help the princesses break the wicked spell. This is an exciting, adventurous fairy tale with many twists and turns.
