I loved the fantasy, but the little war lacked details. This was more of a romantic fantasy than anything else. I liked Warprize better although I am still waiting for another book in this series. It looks like the chronicles of the Warlands and this entire series is taking place in one (albiet far away) areas anyway. I am waiting for the third book and holding my breath, hoping that it will be better. It was an enjoyable read, but still wish that Vaughan will create stories at par with her first series warprize.

Although this brings nothing new to the fantasy and romance genres, i found the story and characters an enjoyable read. Have heard good things about this author's Warprize trilogy, so I'm willing to look into it.

After 0.01 seconds: Am in great pain. Falling asleep by the pool when mercury’s ready to pop out of the thermometer is not a good idea. Apparently when the girl at the IPL hair removal salon tells you to stay out of the sun for 24 hours, she is not lying. Arms now look as if I have been sprayed by a radioactive chemical agent. Not exactly the look I was going for. Will try and console myself with reading “White Star” by E. Vaughan. Pick up book.

Second in the Star series, after Dagger-Star. Again, disappointing. It's hard to believe that this series is by the same author as the Warprize trilogy -- these are tedious formula romances right out of the box.

Superb Fantasy Adventure and Romance, August 1, 2009

Elizabeth Vaughan's romantic characters don't sit around watching the windswept moors and pining for one another. Instead, they are in the thick of the action, fomenting revolution, charging into battle, delving into foul dungeons, and saving farmers and villagers from the ravaging odium (animated dead). The passions of the characters are just as intense as their actions, resulting in a book that has plenty of suspense, plot twists, political intrigue, sexual tension, and heated action (in every sense). Moreover, there is true depth and emotion here--the souls of the characters being far from the black and white that their clothing might suggest.

Once again, Elizabeth Vaughan has created a vivid portrait of strong, believable men and women living and struggling for power and justice in a strange and complex fantasy world. White Star is especially for readers that want a balance of heart-pounding action adventure and heated passion, loss, lust, and romance, with plenty of unexpected turns along the way. Highly recommended!

It's pretty certain what will happen at the end of the book, but the journey there is very enjoyable. Also fun to know for certain that this series and the Warlands trilogy hang together. Pity that we're going to have to wait for the next part since this one was just issued.
