I can safely say that I was not a huge fan of this book, although I did enjoy the world Peter Hamilton created and some of its occupants. The book's pacing is very odd, containing a massive cast that is hard to keep straight at the best of times. Certain chapters are brilliant, while others...

I am not normally a sci-fi book kinda of person, I lean towards fantasy. However this book was so fat it intrigued me so I checked it out from the library. Hamilton has written an incredible story with Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained. It is intelligent, imaginative and engaging. Tons of plot and plot twists, creepy believable aliens and compelling characters create a story I was sad to see end. If you like Sci-Fi or just great fiction I would call this a must read.

The book's pacing is very odd, containing a massive cast that is hard to keep straight at the best of times. Certain chapters are brilliant, while others seem to serve virtually no purpose.

Hamilton does do a great job with the setting; there are a lot of unique ideas here, and those who crave more cerebral sci-fi will find numerous elements to enjoy.

Terrible. I was only able to get to about chapter 7 before I had to put it away for good.

It has a lot of weird content like a guy married to another guy and girl, there's a lady that's alive past the normal human lifespan and she gets intimate with a native jungle boy of a remote planet and other weird things.

The plot itself sounded okay, but, I don't know - definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

A long, epic space opera. This story at times drags on, and at times flies by. There are numerous story lines, and as an audible version can be hard to pick up who each or the characters are and their relationships. Most of it ties together nicely at the end, though it does finish strange for a couple of the main characters. I believe there is a sequel which may explain the abrupt ending. All in all, not a bad book.

Big space opera adventure. This is only the first part of a two bookseries. It concludes with Judas Unchained. It is slow going at the beginning but really picks up in the second half.

I can feel Hamilton getting a grip on this whole writing caper. Lots of intrigue here, better characters (although they're still irritating, just less so), a very complex and surprisingly subtle plot. The sex is still creepy, but thankfully the action is just as exciting, so there is a balance. Let's hope he doesn't throw it all away again.

Pandora's Star starts with a very slow build to anything resembling a plot, taking the reader along on the technological and political standings of the galaxy he's created. At first this seems a bit unneccesary - but it actually buys the reader time to acclimate himself to this galay while only slowly introducing the actual plot.

Similarly, main characters are introduced so slowly, and sometimes so subtly that you often don't even know they're going to be a main character until - a few chapters later, they simply are.

My one complaint about this book would be that it isn't really a complete story in and of itself. It's follow-up book, Judas Unchained, is the second half of this story - with this novel ending in a handful of "cliffhangers" for most of the main characters. If you're considering reading this novel, be sure to leave an opportunity for yourself to read its companion novel as well.

All in all, this is an imaginitive trip through a variety of topics, space, alien species, technology and some of the major impacts it could have on humanity, and event a little fantasy that borders on magic through the introduction of mysterious alien paths that somehow go between planets.

If these are the sorts of things that interest you - definately check this story out.

A rather epic space opera. Interesting plot, if a little over-descriptive at times. A cliff-hanger ending -- which is a big turn off for me. I'll reserve my final judgment until after I finish the sequel.
