I originally read this book in January of 2008 as an ebook, but as of November 25, 2008 Rhianna Samuels' story SHAKING OFF THE DUST, is now in print.
I loved this story and for a first book ~ and even for a more seasoned writer ~ this was an amazing and absolutely fascinating tale. Rhianna Samuels is on my autobuy list for sure!
While this story is a romance centered on Hannah and Takeshi, Dr. Tom Mercurio is definitely a major character, even though he is now a ghost.
Hannah and the other ER nurses considered Dr. Mecurio one arrogant SOB of a neurosurgeon. But upon his death, and with Hannah being the only one to see him, there is a definite change in their relationship: it's a gradual, yet steady progression that says a lot to the old adage about appearances not being everything.
Throw gorgeous Takeshi, best friend to one and wanna-be-lover to the other, into the mix and there are more than a few moments of hilarity. But there is a definite serious undertone to the story as well. After all, Tom was killed in a terroirist attack on his flight; he figures that he should be able to do something about it. An easy story? No. But it is a well-created adventure as well as a romance, and the progression in the trio of relationships is very beautifully and excellently portrayed.
Definitely a book that I will be reading again!
