This is a thoroughly engaging odyssey through part of the Roman Empire with the amusing and very human detective Marcus Didius Falco on a mission to help a friend among other things. When Falco discovers the drowned playwright of a theater troupe, he winds up filling in while trying to solve the mystery. As he uncovers the truth about each suspect, the plot grows ever deeper! The detective's love interest, an interesting and intelligent patrician, provides additional lively give-and-take! ...
