“This book was one of the best books I've read because it keeps you guessing what will happen next and it is also one of those CSI type stories. This book was a book that actually made me wanna keep on reading because it kept me thinking about whats gonna happen next and who did what.”see full review » see other reviews »
“I'm feeling shaken after this one, and not because of the graphic details of each crime or the unrelenting twists, but the teasing nature of this particular evil. While the ending was a disappointment - I'm not a fan of interrupting the action of the final climax for melodramatic angst - I'm willing to forgive it, since this was one of the best crime reads of the year for me.
I think I need a change of pace for a bit, but then I'll be back for more.
Shadow Man is the first of what promises to be a great series. A total page-turner!”
“Shadow Man by Cody McFayden is the first book in a series of four, and is a definite must for horror/mystery genre readers. I have finished reading this novel, and from the very start, the story captivated me with vivid scenes of emotion that the main character, Smoky Barrett, expresses. She is to find a sly murderer, who is seemingly impossible to catch. As the plot progresses on, you will always be left guessing who the murderer is, but will always have a sneaking suspicion that it is actually someone other than who you think it is. The aura of mystery and darkness that surrounds the plot is a great experience for any reader, as it fits well with the context of any situation. However, readers should be aware that there are many explicit scenes in the novel, such as gore and characters acting on intense levels of paranoia. I would recommend this book to no one under 15-16 years of age.”Shashank S. wrote this review Saturday, May 18, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This was a very thrilling book. The action was non-stop from page one. The characters were interesting and I really liked their interaction. I thought the explanations of FBI techniques were fascinating--especially the interrogation techniques. ”jguidry wrote this review Sunday, March 10, 2013. “Wow! This was an excellent book. If you get spooked easily, I don't recommend it. I like scary and I got spooked. Shouldn't have read it alone at night. McFadyen has created one the most terrifying monsters I have even read. He also did an excellent job creating an FBI team that works well together. ”MelissaD wrote this review Friday, November 30, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Smoky Barrett, an FBI special agent in charge of the Los Angeles office's Violent Crimes Unit, has suffered the ultimate loss at the hands of a killer she was hunting. She's lost her family and has permanent physical scars to go along with her grief. She's reluctantly forced into returning to her job when a sadistic killer murders someone else in her life.
Don't read this if you're faint of heart and can't handle riveting suspense. I had a hard time putting this book down and was tense for most of the story. Smoky is an extraordinary character and the killer pretty formidable. I was engrossed not only in the hunt for the killer but Smoky's own personal journey back from near madness. If I have any criticism it's that sometimes it was just too much to bear.
I'm rating this 4.5 stars and plan to read the rest of the books in this series. ”
