As much as he anticipates a quiet life as an herbalist with Elene by his side, a life without battle quickly frustrates him. Not that battle had any intention of leaving him alone. Kylar is the Night Angel, the man who killed...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Shadow's Edge by Brent Weeks is the second book of the Night Angel Trilogy. In this book, Weeks does a fantastic job of keeping the story interesting by adding new problems and new characters. Now that his country has been taken over, Kylar has given up being an assassin and gone to live with the woman he loves, Elene. They settle down, but Kylar soon realizes that he is destined to be an assassin. Then, when he finds out his best friend and heir to the throne is still alive, Kylar must choose whether to remain with the woman he loves or save Logan and possibly the whole kingdom from the evil Godking's rule. Shadow's Edge is a great follow up to The Way of Shadows. It presents a lot of new action and keeps you hooked the whole time. It is another must read from Brent Weeks. ”

While there are some areas for improvement in his writing (pacing and description, possibly), his characters are endearing, plausible, and very engaging. The plot is full of progressive twists, but never pushing beyond the palatable. The action sequences are vivid, the story flows well (I can't recall anything I would deem filler, which is impressive for the length of this trio of novels), and the grimness of the world creates a scene that makes the tragically human protaganists shine all the more brightly... ”

This book has the "main" character growing up and into his role and you learn more as he does. I put "main" in quotes because Brent Weeks does an excellent job of having such rich secondary characters sometimes you want to find out about the others as much as the main storyline! He weaves everything together so well that you are satisfied with the ending of a particular book but you want to continue to the end of the third. A definite must read!”
