  • Kylar Stern: The main character. He used to be a street rat but became the best wetboy of Cenaria under the tutelage of his former Master Durzo Blint. In love with Elene, he promised in the first volume ( The Way of Shadows) to renounce his old life although he has inherited his former master's mysterious ka'kari. He plans to go to another town far from Cenaria to start a new life with Elene and Uly, the daughter of Durzo fulfilling the promise he had made to his master before his death.
  • Durzo Blint: Kylar's former master and ancient owner of a 7th ka'kari. He is supposed to have died in the previous book.
  • Gnasher: A simple minded "holer" with filed and pointy teeth
  • Viridiana Sovari: aka Vi. Hu Gibbet's wetgirl apprentice. Was supposed to kill Kylar in the first book but failed. She suspects he is the so called legendary "Night Angel" who saved some of the Nobles faithful to Logan Gyre. As her master has betrayed the Sa'kagé, she's now forced to work for Garoth, the Godking.
  • Dorian: A Prophet, a magi and first son of the Godking of Khalidor. He betrayed his father. His aim is not clearly defined.
  • Logan Gyre: Kylar's best friend who became King of Cenaria by marrying Jenine Gunder in the first volume. Everybody believes he died after the coup, but the young man miraculously survives although his situation is now unknown.
  • Jarl: Kylar's former best friend when both were still living in the streets. They both live in different worlds now but he still considers Kylar a friend and tries to help him in his own way. Now works for Momma K as a pimp.
