Hard to beat Mosley -- I was missing Easy Rawlins, and this isn't another Easy novel, but a more modern version of Easy, transported to NYC. It's got great pace, dark characters, and an appreciation of real life human nature. Highly enjoyable read...

For my money, Leonid McGill is no Easy Rawlins. Readable and entertaining, yes. Up to the standards of the best Walter Mosley books, no.

I have a feeling that I'll be reading much more about Leonid McGill in the future.

Walter Mosley weaves a tight but cockeyed story, interesting, brutal and laughing out loud fun... just the way I like my reading

I might be a little biased since Walter is one of my very favorite authors but this book was just plain good. Leonid is his latest character who, like Easy Rawlins has a complex occupation and an even more complicated home life. Well written in that gritty crime fiction style that Walter is well known for.

Contemporary protagonist, New York City setting, muddled family situation, ex-boxer turned detective, kind of.
Liked Easy Rawlins in the 40's in L.A. better

...if you are a Mosley fan you will enjoy this one too. It is part of a long running story since A Devil in a Blue Dress.....

This book was great. Very descriptive writing, suspenseful, twists and turns, character development. But I expected nothing less from Mr. Mosley.
