After 'The pickup', this book from Gordimer was a let down. I think that is the tragedy of starting on an author with her best book. Both the story and the narration of this book was winded in my opinion. It could be far cleaner. The story is about man's quarantine due to his radioactive treatment for cancer, at which time he comes and stays with his parents. It describes the changing relationships between the son and the mother, the wife and husband etc.
