Molly Parker is a 12 year old girl from London. She just recently lost her mother to cancer and is now living in Boston with her mother’s best friend Barbara Evans and her family. Molly hasn’t really gotten close to anyone not even The Evans’ daughter Kimmy who is her age. The only person she has gotten close to is Sam who is her best friend. He is also her partner in crime throughout the whole book; he is always by her side and backing her up.
Josh Cameron is a basketball superstar on the Boston Celtics and one of the best players in the entire NBA at the moment. He’s a hot shot, cocky, talented basketball player and also Molly’s father but he doesn’t know that part yet. They’ve never even met, until one day when Molly sneaks out to go to an open Practice for the Boston Celtics. Afterwards she sneaks into the player parking lot and waits for Josh. That’s when the first meet and that’s when the story really starts. At first he doesn’t believe her, not about the fact that she was Jen Parker’s daughter but the fact that she was his daughter and never told Josh. So Molly decides she has to convince him even though the reason her mother never wanted him to know was because Josh Cameron only has room for two things in his life; Basketball, and himself. And she didn’t want molly getting hurt even though she has this warning molly still tries to become a part of Josh’s life.Eventually he comes around and agrees to give it a try even though he’s still not sure if she’s actually his daughter. Their relationship had many ups and downs. the good times when Josh would actually act like a father figure and acted like he wanted Molly around and the other times when he was a total jerk and it seemed like he really didn’t believe her and was only being nice to her because of what she has been through with losing her mom, then he would eventually somehow split them up so he wouldn’t have to “deal” with Molly anymore. This leaves Molly wondering not only if he does or doesn’t believe her but also wondering if she wants him as a father or in her life at all.
