I agree with this phrase saying and after reading this book, it brought me a lot of optimism and lessen my pessimism in life that I used to always have. It lightened up my mood a bit because it made me realize a lot of...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I picked this up at the library in the Claim Jumper section. This is by an African American author, and I agree with the critics, she author does have more of a 'story-telling' feel about her. I would say the first 100 pages were kind of slow, but I found this read described as 'thought-provoking'. It gave me insight into different times and different lives. I enjoyed the theme of 'Love' throughout it. ”

However, I amost felt the last quarter of the book was an add on, or written in a different time period as the style of storytelling changed. This is the only reason I don't classify this as one of my favorites, but overall, even that did not change my overall feeling about the entire story. A profile of family (and by that I mean families of blood ties and the family we create as we move through life), the good and bad side of humanity, survival - all the important themes of life are brillantly woven together.”

COMMENTS: Beautifully written, funny, sad, full of hope and dreams - just what a novel about the love people share should be. ”
