“Nothing offensive...but anyone mind telling me...whats this spirit of Mumbai and Mumbaikars everyone talks about...i have been living there for 7-8 years...yet i don't see people tired of saying " your dreams come true in this city"....what is it...for me i cant define it better than the training of the subconscious or the misconception...”
“I am not really sure if this book needs to be taken as a novel or as a fact because as far as i think, i end up comparing on wot is written in it and wot is happening out thr...wot say?”
“The book gives a detailed account of the Bombay life. But I felt that few aspects were exaggerated and few were dealt with a little lightly. Anyone who has ever been associated with Bombay at some point in their lives must read this book as they can easily picture in their minds what the author is talking about. Must read...”
“good read! its all about the financial capital of india.. its people and ”
“its a nice book, very well written. but yes, it is slightly exagerated....and Suketu's views are far too elitist. ”
“A very well written book. I like the way Mehta eloquently highlights the transition from the 'Bombay' that he grew up with, and the 'Mumbai' of today . However, this book does not provide a very unique perspective to Mumbai's under-belly, a topic that has been exhaustively covered by gangster films in Bollywood and the media at large.”
“Loved this book.....Though I've been in Mumbai for the past 3 years, I started seeing Mumbai a new light after reading this book :) The spirit of Bombay is such that once you live here it's difficult to live elsewhere. Suketu Mehta's depiction of life in the "city that never sleeps", touched a chord with the Mumbaiite (or Mumbaikar to be politically correct :)) in me. It will definitely remain one of my all time favorites. ”
“Can any one tell me about this book.............????”
“If you are a 'Bombaiite' to the core, or even a fan of this great megapolis, you will carry its memories wherever you travel in the world. I am one such 'Mumbaiiah' who had to move out a year and a half back, and started missing it as much as i missed my mom.. Stumbled upon Maximum City at the Calcutta airport once and picked it up, And never could drop it after that. I have lived my city in every page of this book, sitting 1700 kms away, in Bihar. It is the most vivacious and accurate account of life on the streets of the bustling financial capital of India. As someone who has travelled thru the length and breadth of the city in the 25 years of his life, I found this book rivetting, sharp and a true and well deserved accolade to this great city, which is not just a place to live in, but a state of mind”
