Not a Christian book, but a very insightful, amusing and sometimes painful read. If you’re English and want to both understand and laugh at yourself, this is worth a read. If you’re not English and want to understand this culture, it’s worth a read. (Warning - since it is about English culture, it is not thoroughly sanctified in every detail!)

I thought the observations the author made were interesting. I learned more about pub behavior and that I've most likely made some errors myself. The next time I go to England I'll be more in the know.

If you are an anglophile you will probably be fascinated by English anthropologist Kate Fox's keen observations of just what makes the British so British. If you are just curious about the apparently bizarre behavior of Brits you may gain some understanding of the mannerisms and culture underlying their eccentricity. If you don't "get" any English humor, well, deduct two stars and give this a pass. If you are interested, bump it up a star to 5 and it's a must read. Learn to talk about the weather, stand the barkeep a pint, and polish up, er, dust off your understated self-deprecatory humor.

Well written and it makes you understand and appreciates being part of Britain. When I go places I now tend to behave and converse to English about the weather as an ice breaker especially the elderly and it always works. I recommend it

I loved reading this while on the train or tube, there were so many, 'yup, just like she said!' moments that it was unreal! I laughed (well did big smiles on the train, woudn't want to laugh outloud!). I wish I had read it last year (my first year abroad) but I think I understood more with a year under my belt. I definitely recommend it!

A must read for anyone who has ever been infuriated or mystified by English behaviour. This book confirms it - Poms love to whinge! They are also hypocritical and socially inept..but we knew that already. Kate Fox, an anthropologist, provides fascinating evidence in this book. She jumped queues, bumped into people, apologised profusely, noted down bogside reading habits, examines class differences, and even tells us why the English talk about the weather and dress badly.
A little repetitive, but highly amusing all the same. You will definitely find out a thing or two about the English.

Really fascinating and worryingly close to home (surprisingly). Anthropology with a very generous dollop of terribly English humour. Great stuff.
