I read only 250 pages, till my patience worn out. I can quite understand how Sarah Macdonald might have been horrified when she landed India at first. Because, having been brought up in the most conservative family at the southern part of India, I felt exactly like her, when I visited Las Vegas. See, huge cultural difference will do weird things to one’s mind.

What I don’t like about the book is that, it’s dull narration. Some parts were hopelessly dragging. How India annoyed Sarah, the narration annoyed me. Besides I am not a religious or spiritual person to sympathize her mystical quest. At one point where she had explained the numerous religions at India, it confused me more than her and subsequently drenched my last hope to finish the book.

After 250 pages, I closed the book hoping she would appreciate India in the rest of the book. But I didn’t dare to read it.

I did not like this book. Sarah Macdonald seems to have the typical westerners reaction to India - "Ooh, it's dirty and hot and difficult, and all the men look at me, and I feel so out of place, and I don't like the toilets, and the traffic is really fast and scary, and there are cows and crazy religious stuff" and so on. Basically, she is unlikeable and annoying and you wish she would shut up and try and learn something instead of just freaking out about how weird and difficult India is for someone who clearly has no idea what to expect or how to cope with cultures other than her own.
