I hate to think that Anne's book is grouped with other "bad mommy" books- this one feels so much more peaceful/ real/ whole/ searching than some of the other books in that vein. I appreciate the anger and rage that...” see full review » see other reviews » |

“I love Lamott's writing. She can relate to you the humanity of an experience you've never had. She's a messed up, neurotic, flawed human being, and I loved her.”

I enjoyed the honesty and biting humor of Lamott’s observations of her son and her feelings about her son. However, I felt Lamott was too depressing of a person for my enjoyment. In the second half of the book she is depressed a lot. And I think she worries too much about not having a father for her son, but maybe that’s just me since my baby does have a father.”

In both humorous and sobering ways she realistically journals the challenges of being a first time single mom in her mid-thirties. I felt like I was talking with an old friend as she described the changes to her body and soul through the life altering experiences of giving birth and becoming a new mother. I wish I had read it earlier when I became the mother of my own newborn son.”

Anne's take on becoming a single mom, even just on pregnancy, was hilarious, sweet, and heart-breaking all at once. I love her voice, her passion, and her authenticity.
A must read!”
