The novel, based on fictional events, is set in the years 2000-2005, when a young boy in Ahmedabad named Govind dreams of starting a business.To accommodate his friends Ishaan and Omi's passion, they open a cricket shop. However, each has a different motive: Govind's goal is to make money; Ishaan desires to nurture Ali, a gifted batsman; Omi just wants to be with his friends. Govind is the narrator and the central character of the novel, and the story revolves around the three mistakes caused by him and the religious politics.

  • Govind Patel: The Main protagonist through whom the story progresses. Govinds father had left him when he was quite young. His mother has a business of selling Khakras and Govind supports his mother by taking tutions. Govind is exceptionally good in Maths and has topped the district in the subject He is quite ambitious by nature and dreams of owning his own business one day. He falls in love with his friends sister Vidya.He has business in his blood
  • Ishant or Ish: Govinds friend. His dad wanted him to join the NDA but Ishaant wanted to be a cricketer. He has run away from the NDA. This leads to constant fights with his dad. He is enormously into cricket and figures into those select fervid indian cricket followers which makes India a cricket Crazy nation
  • Omi: Omi is the third of the friends. He is the son of the head priest of the temple. He is a simpleton who just likes to hang around with friends. He joins the business because he doesnot want to be a priest like his dad.He is being portrayed as the dumbest among the trio.
  • Ali: The gifted (muslim)boy who has the potential in him to be the number one player in the team. Ishaant sees the potential and takes him under his wings and trains him to be a cricketer.
  • Vidya: Vidya is Ishaant's younger sister who is preparing for her medical entrance exams and who hates Maths. Govind takes on the responsibility of teaching Maths to Vidya.She is a adventurer and explorer, one who wants to break free and shatter all the old and progress blocking traditions.
  • Mama: Mama is Omi's uncle who has become a worker of a hindu political party and he also helps omi,ish andnarrator to set up the book by providing them with shop and later helps out with funding to resurrect their business wrecked up due to the bhuj earthquake....
  • Parekh Ji: Chief of the hindu political party in which Mama is the member
  • Fred Li: He's an Australian Cricket Team member and a fast bowler. He invites the three friends and Ali to Sydney when they travel to Goa to see India-Australia One Day International and meet him in the stands. He spots talent in Ali and wants to help him getting a chance to be trained in his academy in Australia.
