I think this is my favourite so far.

AJ Foster has loved Cord McKay since she was five. She's waited patiently for him to notice her, even watching him marry and then divorce. Now at 22, AJ decides she's had enough of waiting for Cord to notice her, and give him a scorching proposal.

On a rare night out, Cord McKay sees a blonde beauty on the dance floor. It's the first time since his divorce that a woman has stirred his blood, as a single father with a ranch to run he doesn't have time to think about women, and from his perspective woman will love you and leave you anyway. Cord is staggered to find that the blonde temptress is none other than little Amy Jo, and he is intrigued when his little sisters best friend gives him the eye, then stunned when she asks him to teach her all about sex.

They agree to eight weeks of sex. Eight weeks until Cord's son Ky comes back from his mothers and eight weeks until AJ goes back to school. AJ knows she shouldn't hope for any more than eight weeks, but part of her wants Cord to see her as she is and love her for it, as time moves on and AJ falls deeper she realises she simply won't settle. Cord feels things for AJ that no man his age should feel; embarrassed by his family he keeps AJ a secret. He knows what she wants, but is too afraid to offer it to her, not when she could walk away, he can't do that again.

This book was awesome. The perfect blend of romance, solid relationship building and scorching sex. Lorelei really is the best at keeping her whole world moving whilst giving us a great story. AJ was a well written character, not many can do the innocent virgin without making her seem weak everywhere else, but her family story proves her strength, and I love how she learned from her relationship. The trust between the two was beautiful. Cord was a good blend of dominant and caring, I much preferred him to Carter from Rode Hard Put Up Wet. We kept up with old friends, got introduced to new ones that will start developing the series beyond the McKay family.

This book was also very poignant, and deals with some dark issues. Colt McKay’s descent into alcoholism was a sub-plot that was dealt with in a very realistic way. The surprising death of a character showed what a great writer Ms James is, she used the death for great effect and it showed us how things can go wrong in life, as well as a reality check about life on the ranch. I know Colt has a book of his own, so I very much look forward to seeing him get a HEA.

I really enjoyed Cowgirl Up and Ride. Even though the sex was hot, it was the characters that drew me in. AJ has been in love with Cord since she was 5 years old. Cord has always seen AJ as his kid sister's best friend. AJ, now 22, has decided that she's waited long enough for Cord to notice her and takes matters into her own hands. His reaction when she propositions him is great.

I have to admit that I had a problem with their ages at first; AJ being 22 and Cord being 35. However, my concerns were laid to rest with AJ's maturity. She had to grow up fast and she wasn't a typical 22 year old. She had a good head on her shoulders and I truly admired her for not wanting to settle. She knew what she wanted and wasn't going to have it any other way. Cord had relationship issues since his first wife left him. He didn't want to admit to any feelings for AJ, in case she did the same thing. He wanted to keep things on a purely physical level, but AJ was getting under his skin and he didn't know how to handle it. I think James did a great job dealing with all the ups and downs of their relationship in a realistic manner and I was really rooting for them. I also enjoyed the dynamics of their families and the issues that arose there. This is my favorite of the series so far.

I enjoyed the main story line between Cord and AJ. He was blind to her feelings and callus at times. His fear could have kept AJ out of his life. She was the stronger of the two and was ready to face whatever life gave her. I felt in some of her other story lines, she took the easy way out with Dag. She could have explored his story of his homosexuality rather than what she did. There's also Kade and Kane's stories that need told. Good read!
