Just great--I love throwing stuff out now, and seeing how much surface area I can keep clear is a much more inspirational activity than I ever could have imagined. The only downside is my family is afraid to leave me alone in the house for fear of what might be missing when they return...

This book has some very insightful viewpoints in regards to living a clean and healthy lifestyle. If you feel like you are overwhelmed with your house or your life, its definitely a good insightful book to get some tips from. If you are already an organised, declutter freak then the book can encourage you and possibly give you some extra ideas that you had not thought of before.

He's funny and light and has some good tips. I agree with 95% of his stuff, but I keep boxes under my bed. Live with it.
It did make me declutter some rooms in the house after Vienna.

Best organizing/decluttering book I've read. My bedroom is a peaceful place now and has been for over a month since I read the chapter on bedrooms. I love it when books teach me something new and this one did. I really think about if its worth it to hang on to things now, and more and more often the answer is no. I returned the book to the library a while ago but I keep thinking about things I learned.

This book changed my life. Really. I have always been a packrat of emotional and potentially useful items. Peter (note the first-name basis) helped me imagine the life I want to live, which did not include spending my life dealing with "junk" and "stuff," but rather with the hobbies and people that I love. This will be a work in progress, but I'm on my way to being clutter-free! Humans have an instinct to "gather," and so we do. If a little is good, then more is better, right? Not necessarily. Clutter in our lives literally overwhelms us, taking up time and space; causing depression, anxiety, and stress. Decluttering lifts the burden and frees us to live the lives we imagine! Nick has been coaxing me for years to get rid of excess "stuff." After reading aloud much of the book on a trip home from Spokane, he said "I've been telling you this for years!" True, but he tells me while he's tearing "treasures" out of my arms and dumping them in the garbage. Peter's way magically makes me DESIRE to eliminate the excess. I recommend this book to all the packrats out there. It will change your life and allow you to "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!" --H.D. Thoreau

We have not even read three chapters and already we have gotten rid of about 7 boxes worth of stuff. We are so excited to continue!

Turns out this book was seriously awesome. We are making some significant progress (little by little) in our home!

This book is not so much about organizing what you have, but delves into why you have it, and why you should let it go. Then, once you've gotton rid of most of the excess, keep it zoned and organized the way you want. I like this book, not so much for the organizational take, but for the psychological reasons why we end up so cluttered and how to get out.

Quick read & helpful - but mostly in that kind of "re-stating the obvious" kind of way. It was useful, of course, because it reminded me of things I already knew but compared to other books on the same subject it's pretty mediocre.
