Clarissa Morgenstern/Clary Fray: Clary is the daughter of Jocelyn Fairchild/Fray, and an artist like her mother. Clary has some...interesting...family connections and some even more fascinating abilities, making her a very unique Shadowhunter. She is Simon Lewis's best friend, and has curly red hair and green eyes, and is short.
Jace Wayland, has several other names that are spoilers: Jace is the Lightwood's adoptive son. He is a very skilled Shadowhunter, sarcastic, gorgeous, and somewhat arrogant. Like Clary, Jace's family connections are a major cause of angst for him. But are Jace's scars and attitude just something just a mask over his sensitive side?
Simon Lewis: Simon has been Clary's best friend for a very long time. He got sucked into the supernatural and at first, thought it was cool. Then overtime, he realized that it wasnt like Dungeons and Dragons, he learned that in this 'game', you have everything to lose...
Isabelle Lightwood: A Shadowhunter with a taste for Downworlders and seven-inch high heels, Isabelle is the daughter of Maryse and Robert Lightwood, former Circle members, and sister to Alec Lightwood, Max Lightwood and Jace Wayland, her adopted brother. She is almost never caught with out her whip, her prized weapon and is bored easily by most men. Isabelle is gorgeous, tough, loyal, and a very capable Shadowhunter. She loves her siblings fiercely and is very rebellious towards her parents. She and Clary often struggle to get along. One of Isabelle's nicknames is "Izzy".
Alexander Lightwood: The eldest Lightwood child, "Alec" is the son of Maryse and Robert Lightwood and older brother to Isabelle and Max Lightwood. He is Jace's adoptive brother and they are best friends and "parabatai". Alec is great with a bow and arrow and has feelings for Magnus Bane and Jace (he tried to hide it). Alec is serious and very protective of his family, and can be seen as uptight. However, he does have his funny and lighthearted moments. Alec has messy black hair, and blue eyes that a certain Magnus Bane has something of a weakness for...
Magnus Bane: The High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus is a very powerful warlock. He is sarcastic, hilarious, and affectionate. Magnus has straight black hair that is down to his shoulders but usually spiked up with gel and covered in glitter. Magnus really likes glitter, sparkles, rainbow clothing, leather, bright colors, and so on. Magnus has feelings for Alec (and his blue eyes) but exactly what's going on between them is somewhat of a mystery. Magnus has gotten the Shadowhunters out of trouble many times, and Alec has gotten them out of the exorbitant fee. Magnus is about 800 years old, maybe 900 (he never gives the same answer) but is forever frozen at the physical age of 19. His great power and wisdom combined with his youthful looks, fashion sense, and sense of humor make him seem in his 20s.
Luke Garroway/Lucian Graymark.: Luke is a Shadowhunter who was turned into a werewolf as an adult. He and Jocelyn have been friends since they were children, and he has been in love with her since they were teenagers. When they were teenagers, Luke and Valentine were best friends, but when Luke was turned into a werewolf and started to see the bad direction Valentine's plans were heading, all that changed. He is like a father to Clary, and cares about her very much. Luke is also something of a mentor to Jace. Luke and his pack keep close to Clary and her friends to protect them, heal them, fight with them, give them advice, and so on. Luke is a flannel and jeans kind of guy and owns a bookstore...that is when he's not in wolf form or out fighting Valentine and his army.
Maia: Maia is a girl around Simon and Clary's age. She was abused by her angelic-looking brother before he died, and her gorgeous boyfriend abused her and turned her into a werewolf, and consequently she is very wary of good-looking guys. Maia is sweet, tough, and pretty, described as being curvy and having golden-brown hair in braids. Maia, being part of Luke's pack, often fights alongside Clary and her friends, including Simon, for whom she harbors something of a crush.
Valentine Morgenstern: Valentine is charming, persuasive, and manipulative, and when he, Luke, and Jocelyn were teenagers he started a group known as the Circle, meant to purify the world.
