The author worries about explaining what's going around that she forgets to develop the relationship between the characters and in the end they fall in love too abruptly, there's no lead up to the romance. It wasn't all bad though, just not the type of book I particularly like. ”

I would recommend this book to girls because boys probably wouldn't get it.”

Countess Anna Grazinsky has had to flee Russia due to the Russian Civil War to work in England as a maid. This is an exciting adventure story that manages to include both mystery and romance. However, I do not know whether Ibbotson set this book during the Russian Civil War or World War 1 and in both cases sometimes it is as though everthing is normal such are the qualities and quantities of the food and clothes and drink.”
