Eric is a teenaged boy who recently moved to Salt Lake City with his family. He discovers a schoolmate, Grace, who has run away from home, and offers her the club house built by himself and his brother Joel. Eric, Grace, and Joel build up a friendship, and Eric and Grace eventually become boyfriend and girlfriend. When news of Grace's disappearance appears on tv, Grace confides to Eric that she ran away because her stepfather raped her and left her pregnant. Grace contacts her aunt, but stays for a Christmas with Eric. The next day, cops show up at the house and Eric confesses to where Grace is hiding. She leaves with the police. Upon returning to school after Christmas break, Eric learns Grace was killed by her stepfather. He sinks into a depression, blaming his family, the cops, and himself for Grace's death. He eventually turns to grace and grows up to be a prosecuter in child abuse cases.
