Great book - a little slow at the beginning, lots of suprise twists. I was thrown by Sydney's relationship with Jeff - the speed, the ease, the loss. I would have liked more of a love trianlge with brother Ben - harsh sibling rivalry, almost expected ending.

I found it hard to like the characters in Shreve's novel. The main character, a woman, seems so gullible, naive and frustrating. Her fiance (who jilts her at the alter) is too obviously a jerk even though Shreve tries to show him as someone that others might not see through. And when the main character eventually falls in love with her fiancee's brother, it isn't very satisfying.

I'm near the end of this book and absolutely love Anita Shreve's books. I tend to read them during the warmer months but maybe that's because most of the stories take place near the beach. I also leave in the NH seacoast area so when I read these stories I do feel like I could have known these people in her books. Fantastic!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love Ms. Shreve’s writing; it’s so beautiful and simple, but the simplicity in no way takes away from the quality. In terms of Body Surfing, I was really drawn into the story and grew very attached to some of the characters, particularly Sydney. I agree with some other reviewers that getting to know Mr. Edwards, Julie, Ben and some of the other characters a bit better but this book was about Sydney and Sydney’s journey through her summer in the Edwards’s beach house and her journey through life following the death of her husband and revealing more about each of those characters would have taken away from that journey. It also would have changed her relationship with the family and that relationship as it was seemed to me to be very crucial to the story. I was happy with the book as it was and was once again drawn into an Anita Shreve story. I don’t know why I haven’t read more of her books so far, especially considering I have them all. I also enjoyed returning, once again, to the house featured in Sea Glass and The Pilot’s Wife.

I am in the middle of this book and enjoying the quick pace, the development of the relationships, and Anita's way of 'hooking me' into the story. I lived in Waltham, MA for a few years and enjoyed trips to NH and VT. Beautiful area of the country to be shared with her readers.

I enjoyed this book very much. I have read most if not all of her books. It is a quick read. I was reading it at a time when I was feeling betrayed by a man, so maybe that's why I liked it so much!

I haven't enjoyed a book by Shreve in awhile and I'm so glad I am reading this one right now! I love the plot and the fact that it takes place in the same setting as all of my other favorite Shreve books. It's great not to be disappointed in this book as I was with a couple others I read awhile ago; I decided to take a break from her books, but it's great to be reading her writing again, especially when it's this enjoyable.
