  “Bizarre book. Read the first and 2nd volumes but can't for the life of me finish the 3rd and newest installment. The story is taking too long to resolve and the characters annoying. ”

  “WEIRD BOOK! It was...entertaining, but it was really weird! I didn't quite understand what was going on until the second novel. Whenever I think about this book, I can't help but shutter. But it was still entertaining, and maybe someone else would enjoy it. But myself, I don't know...”

Attempts at horror were forestalled by the fact that I had no idea why I was meant to be scared or what I was supposedly scared of; descriptions of rooms and situations were confused to the point where my imagination was having to bend over backwards and squint to get itself into sort-of the right position; and while I had some sympathy for the characters in the beginning, by the end I only hated them all the more for apparently knowing what the plot was about and not telling me.”
