“An excellent book about North Korea as shown through the lives of 6 individuals from the 1960s through 2000, all of whom eventually defected, and showing their difficulties in assimilating after defection. What a tragic waste of the intelligent, resourceful, and energetic populace of North Korea. Had their leaders had the foresight to use them in building up their country and embracing the changes in the world, I have no doubt that today North Korea would be a very wealthy, world-leading country. Instead it is backward, bankrupt, and starving. If yesterday's newspaper is to be believed, it's new young leader is cut from the same stamp as his father and grandfather. He is insisting on exploding a long-range missle which will effectively end the world aid which was offered by the U.S.”
