“Dark, but compassionate look at a writer who struggles with alcoholism. Compelling story and would be a good read for someone wanting to explore the graphic novel genre for the firs time.”

Yes | No““The Alcoholic” by Jonathan Ames is amazing autobiography/graphic novel the explores the life of Jonathan Ames from his childhood to this day and age. I had the great chance of being able to get a copy before the book was actually mass produced. Not only are the images extremely compelling, but his experiences as a confused New Yorker are very intriguing. The story begins with his encounter with beer and the experiences he had with his best friend. They loss their virginity together but never talked about ever again. This sexual experience provoked his alcoholism and strong drug use. This mass confusion was also a calling for his writing. The story portray’s his ideas and thoughts through political turmoil and also weird and unplanned events. The story is amazing and the graphics are phenomenal. I was given the chance to meet Jonathan Ames at his book opening of The Alcoholic in store in downtown Brooklyn. There I was able to converse about the book and also get a better understanding of Mr. Ames. (AWESOME DUDE). Any way I highly recommend this book.”

His confusion, desperation and heartache breathe through every word and every image. Jonathan’s journey to purgatory and back are documented with searing honesty and touching sensitivity. ”
