“Maybe more of a 2.5. It was billed as smutty/sensual fantasy. While the imagery was vivid, bizarre and beautiful, the plot, fantasy and smut were a bit shallow. Interesting concept, just not enough to grip me.”

When I started the book I thought that I would be able to connect with some of the characters, but as the book progressed they drifted further and further from reality. The ending was completely unsatisfying. The story also felt completely disjointed. ”

I found the story cohesive and well-plotted, and the characters compelling, which is amazing since the author's choice of words often threatens to overshadow the general meaning. ”

Then, about 2/3 of the way through, it lost me again. The writing has lovely moments, but by the end of the book I was utterly baffled. I hear her other works are better.”

This is a bizarre modern fantasy that is so rich, poetic and imaginative that I could only read a chapter or so at a time and then had to put it down because it was almost too much to absorb. I could not decide which of the four main characters I enjoyed the most; there was something about each one of them that I loved. Dreamlike and achingly beautiful.”
