“Listened to it on CD, narrator was annoying, she ended every sentence on an upnote....and it's really not necessary to say "she said" everytime it is written, even though it was written way too much. I think readers realize when someone in the story is speaking. All that aside, sweet story with lots of good characters.”

Her elder daughter, Carrie, disappeared from the hospital where she was taken following a boating accident in which her father drowned. Maura’s sister, Katharine, an artist, lives in RI. Maura is to be a teacher at the prestigious Newport Academy and daughter Beck and son Travis will attend as students. A new start is what this family needs to mend. Elder sisters Maura and Katharine need to find their way back to each other and Beck, who is seeking life’s answers in the world of mathematics, needs for her sister Carrie to find her way home. This was a very satisfying story of family, sisters, and friends in an examination of how the past can influence the future.”

Yes | No“When Maggie Shaws husband dies and her eldest daughter, Carrie, runs away, Maggie moves her remaining family, Travis and Beck, back to her hometown of Newport, Rhode Island where she has been asked to teach English at the prestigious Newport Academy. Beck, her troubled daughter who was very close to her sister, Carrie, but is also quite the math prodigy, has trouble adjusting to her new home. Travis fits right in as the school’s new football star but he still has many issues to work out. Maggie is constantly looking for her daughter, Carrie, but finds her own sister and her old flame instead. Eventually, the missing daughter comes into the story and all the issues seem to get resolved. Not the best Rice novel I have read.
FICTION RICE”
“The Geometry of Sisters brings together three sets of sisters dealing with the trauma of death, secrets and the consequences of misunderstanding and loss. Katherine and Maura have been estranged for years following Maura's leaving Newport, Rhode Island and her love J. D. Blackstone for her safer fiance in the Midwest. Today, Beck is devastated by the death of her father and her sister, Carrie's, running away. When the family moves to Rhode Island so Maura can teach at a private school, Beck meets Lucy and Pell, sisters living with their father's death and their mother's abandonment. Each of the sister's must resolve the loss, conflict and shame of past actions. They face these issues against the story of a fourth pair of sisters who died years before and seem to haunt the school.
I loved the characters of this book, well-developed and complex. While predictable the story is well told and compelling. The theme of math and its "story", and how it pulls Lucy and Beck into dealing with their trauma and believing in love and life, adds an element of interest.”
