The book I am writing a review about is called Stick Figure. The author is Lori Gottlieb and on a scale from 0 to 5 I would rate this book 4 stars. This book has only 233 pages in it. I gave it this rating because this was a very good book. It had very interesting characters and had you hooked through the whole thing! I didn’t rate it a full 5 because there is one part in this book during the middle that has you unhooked for a minute.

This book is about a girl who has been pretty fine her whole life. She is a tomboy and LOVES playing sports. Then one day that starts to change. She goes through a stage of where she thinks that she is to fat. This little girl starves herself because she doesn’t want to gain any weight, she just wants to loose weight. Then she goes into having anorexia and has to go through everyone telling her she needs to stop or she will get into very big trouble. Do you think she starts eating again? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

This is a very good book and I recommend it to anyone. Even if you don’t like this type of genre I’m sure you will like this book just as much as I did when I read it. So if you are looking for a book next time you go into the library and you can’t find one, You should ask the librarian for this book!

I thought this book was just okay. I couldn't really relate that much to the main character and even though I know this is a real person I can't help feeling that the character was somewhat annoying. The story moved kind of slowly and I kept finding there was nothing that made me want to keep reading. When I finished the book I thought the ending was very abrupt and didn't really make much sense. The character came to a very large realization at the end and decided to drastically change her life and did so right away. There didn't really seem like there was anything leading up to that realization and when the book ended it didn't feel complete. Overall the book was a bit of a disappointment.

It's a story of anorexia written in the form of an 11 year old's diary. The beginning was a little off putting because it started with the whole let me tell you about myself bit. The transition out of that part and into the actual story was well written and very smooth. The plot of the book could have been really touching, but it having been written in such a childish way took away from that emotion for me.

Amazing insight into the mind of an anorexic. It's so sad that doctors don't take the time to learn about this disease---her doctor was horrid and didn't help one bit. Luckily she found the only sane adult in her life (I know how hard THAT is) to help her for real.
The girl is brilliant and way smarter than everyone around her, which everyone hates her for. So I completely identified. I was lucky enough to already be in therapy when I had a short bout of it, more like EDNOS and not full blown thank universe's chaos, but she suffered much more. I could not put it down and finished it in less than 24 hours. I fell asleep reading it last night and woke up and finished it this morning. Plus the girl loved the declaration of independence, and I fall hard for a girl like that :)
It goes along with everything Levenkron (famous psychotherapist) teaches us, so if you like this book check out Steven Levenkron's novel and nonfiction books on anorexia.

Stick Figure was a great book. It was about a girl named Lori, when she was little she never cared about her appearance, but when she starts going to girl boy parties and turns 11, she starts to care about her appearance a lot. She thought she was fat and started starving herself. She got hospitalized and was close to dyeing. This really showed how anorexic people think, and why they do what they do. This also shows how anorexic people minds are really warped, and how anorexia really is a disorder. This book was really great and it really showed a new perspective on anorexia for me.

Stick figure was a really great book. It showed a different side of eating disorders. Most are told by someone trying to get people to stop, like an intervention. This shows it in the eyes of a kid, growing up, seeing grown ups eating smaller portions, dieting. She doesnt understand that they could do that because their bodies were grown and they didnt have to worry about going through changes like a teenager would. She just wants to be like them. I thought this was a good book because it was writtten very realistically.

I was first recommended to read the book Stick Figure by Lori Gottlieb about a year or so ago and just recently got the chance to do so. The book is composed of the author's many diary entries from when she was eleven year old. Lori was a typical eleven year old with very typical problems, except for the fact that her mother began pressuring her about her weight since she was very young. The expectations that she is surrounded by through her mother and the rest of her community eventually leads to her becoming anorexic. In this stage of her life, Lori is never able to see herself as the perfect size and she becomes obsessed what she eats and at one point even feels bad about breathing air because she thinks calories will enter her body. It gets so bad that she is hospitalized but luckily the book takes us through her recovery as well. Although at some points it was very depressing to see an 11 year old think like this, I really enjoyed the book and being able to see what it going on in the mind of people who have this unfortunate disease.
