Even though Ms. Leigh went back to a more dominate/aggressive male, he was not creepy and by the end, he was more than he appeared. I really look forward to the next novel in this series.”

We change direction and leave the feline breeds for the coyote/wolf breeds, and I felt a bit lost at times. But there were enough familiar characters to help me along. I've always wondered what I've missed by skipping the earlier (and out of print) Breed books, but it wasn't until Coyote's Mate that I felt like I needed those stories for back ground information. At times I felt like there were pieces of the puzzle, lingo used, situations, etc., that were probably discussed in detail in earlier books.
This story shows us for the first time (in the modern breed series) an in-depth look at the Coyotes. Until now, I thought they were all bad. But not so! At first I thought we may get a repeat of Megan's Mark or Harmony's Way with the over-dominating male. But I was pleasantly surprised. There were parts of this story that made me weep for Anya. The details of her emotional rollercoaster are sometimes beautiful and honest. However, she does border too close to the line of the martyr.
While I give this story 4 stars overall, I have to say that I give the writing only 3 stars. I've noticed in Ms. Leigh's books that things sometimes just "happen." I'll have to re-read to see if I missed a segway or a sentance. This happened a lot in this book. There were too many times that I had to re-read a passage to try and understand the full meaning of the situation.”
“
I first started reading Lora Leigh when she wrote for Ellora's Cave, in particular, her Men of August series. In fact, they were my first introduction to menages. She made me believe it was possible for three brothers to be so emotionally wounded that the only way they could show their love for each other was to share their women. And I'm a huge fan of the Nauti series.
Now, the Breed series is different. Not exactly paranormal, since the heroes (and some of the heroines) are lab-created hybrids with animal DNA and tendencies, but with that definite feel.
As with all series, I've enjoyed some of the Breeds books more than others. However, I've got to tip my hat to Ms. Leigh for Coyote's Mate. She's taken the perennial villains of the series, the Coyote Breeds, and made them heroic. No, they are not all evil. They are just the most tortured and beaten down of all the Breeds, going through the most vicious conditioning of them all, and that's saying something. Small wonder they are almost feral. Nobility is a hard thing to crush, though, as is proved in this particular book's hero, Del-Ray Delgado, the alpha of the free Coyotes. As the leader of a mercenary pack with dreams of joining the free Breeds, he is unabashedly sneaky, conniving and ruthless. It's a great cover for a man with strong desires, a fierce sense of loyalty to those under his care and a heart that feels more than he'd like it to.
That's why he's thrown for such a loop when he falls for Anya Kobrin, a 16-year-old genius who works in a Russian lab and contacts him about breaking out the Coyote Breeds imprisoned there. He knew from the moment he met her that he'd betray her, but he still wanted her with everything he was. It took him six years to claim her, but with their relationship tainted by betrayal and disillusion, it took him far longer to win her over.
I'll admit, I got sniffly at some points in this book. (Yeah, I'm a sucker!) Sure, I knew it would all work out the end, but that didn't make the emotion any less poignant.
I enjoyed seeing Del-Ray fumble along in his totally male way, trying to fit Anya into the mold of the perfect, protected mate, when in reality, the fiercely independent woman was more than a match to stand at his side, shoulder to shoulder.
I think it's safe to say Coyote's Mate is by far my favorite Breeds book to date.
Kudos to Ms. Leigh.”
“I loved this book. It's one of my favorites in the series, right along with Mercury's War and The Man Within. I liked how Anya stood up for herself by taking legal action against Del-Rey. I think it was the first time a mate had done that. There was great emotion in this book. The scenes when Anya and Del -Rey were alone and he was pleading for her affection were sweet, but made me feel bad for them both. The book was long enough so there was great detail. ”

Mrs. Leigh really put her foot in this one. Del-Ray, the Alpha for the Coyote Breeds, is definitely my type of Alpha-Male. This book was phenomenal from start to finish, from the beginning of a growing relationship to the ending triumphing love. Anya was a great courageous character, kind of too submissive at times, but the girl definitely had a back-bone. This book brought a whole new scene into view with the Coyote Military “Base” (Feline “Sanctuary”, Wolf “Haven”). You think Tanner is sexy or Mercury is tough (which they are, don’t get me wrong), just wait til you get between the sheets with Del-Ray. You’ll never want to leave. Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ”
