“Every citizen of the USA needs to read this expose of how the Cheney/Bush administration fought a useless war, and what motivated them to do so.”

Here are a few quotes from the Afterword:
...a battle for America's security became, and continues to be, a battle for the country's soul.
... the Bush Administration was warned that the short-term benefits of its extralegal approach to fighting terrorism would have tragically destructive long-term consequences both for the rule of law and America's interests in the world.
... the Bush Administration invoked the fear flowing from the attacks on September 11 to institute a policy of deliberate cruelty that would have been unthinkable on September 10.
... President Bush and Vice President Cheney have continued to insist that they never authorized or condoned "torture," which they acknowledge is criminal under U.S. law. But their semantic parsing of the term began to seem increasingly disingenuous as details from the secret detention and interrogation program surfaced, piece by piece.”
“Wonderful reporting on the torture scandal. Every chapter brings new horrors and I am just astounded at how no one was able to rein in the VP or his underlings. The lawyers involved in legalizing torture should be prosecuted.”

Hard to believe that such atrocities could be done by Americans without more common knowlege. It is a true irony of democracy that some feel that inorder to remain "free" freedom needs to be taken from others and atrocities perpetrated in the name of freedom. Seems we will never learn and will continue to have duplicitous leaders.”

Horrifying to listen to the parsing of what is 'torture' and what isn't by the yes men in the government. Most horrifying to hear how many innocents were rounded up, tortured, held for years . . . ”

It is a scary tale.”
“This should be required reading for anyone who votes in the United States. It is very well researched and quite frankly very scary to think that our constitution was so badly trounced. It's worth the read and pass it along to someone else when you are finished.”

I found myself at the end of the book thinking, has anything changed? We have a new adminstration, did they change these torture ok policies? I walk away from this thinking I need to pay more attention, we all do.”
