Some time later, I started again, took my time and let myself savor each example, each point. I got swept up the author's love of books - her appreciation of the...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“What I liked best about this book were the excerpts from many genres and eras, and Prose's review of the excerpts she selected to illustrates elements such as dialogue, details, point of view, sentence construction, paragraphing, etc. I didn't always agree with her or think the excerpts were exceptional examples, but she turned me on to a few writers whose works I'm now eager to read.”

So far this book has the words and I find myself rereading every line that describes for me what I couldn't say myself. ”

However, I would say it would probably not be the way every writer can read, or some find it too methodical. Good insight and relatively entertaining.”

I constantly asked myself, why am I reading THIS book, rather than just reading the books she quotes at length (sometimes eight pages!!!) from? ”
