In my continuing study of early American history, I found this book to be helpful in broadening my understanding of the era. The author demonstrating a good tendency to highlight not only important historical moments, but also personalized the main character of this history: Pierre Charles L'Enfant. I found the book to be both informative and educational. My only complaint is that it would have been nice to learn, even in a paragraph or two, why the capital stayed in Washington DC despite such opposition and how long it took the city to grow from an untamed wilderness into a more respectable city (a decade or two, a half century?).
