“I loved this book. I had watched the 2004 version of the movie, and I was pleasantly surprised after reading the book to find that the book had so much more detail and explained a lot of things. I was always skeptical about Christine and Raoul's love, but it is explained in the book, and I do appreciate Raoul a bit more now. However, I still find the ending to be probably one of the saddest things to think about. That is why I have never liked Raoul over Erik. Imagine being ridiculed all your life and then when you think you have finally found someone to love they are ripped away from you...”
“I find Raoul's character to be somewhat presumptuous. Annoyingly so. However I think Leroux presents an interesting psychological profile, particularly Erik. Overall a pretty good book.”
