“I really wanted to like this book more than I did. It felt like a tease. We're told over and over how smart the heroine is, how she loves to read, and how she wants to be valued for her mind......and then two seconds later girlfriend doesn't seem to have the sense of a chick in a B movie horror film. We're told over and over about how much chemistry there is between the heroine & the hero, but.......where was it hiding? In most books, when the couple have instant chemistry, you don't have to be told it repeatedly, you feel it. The heroine has a spark going with a possible vampire slayer, but.....in spite of the banter, our plucky heroine says she feels nothing for him, just ain't gonna happen. Well that's a shame because, for me, a sure sign that a story is heading downhill is when the heroine has more chemistry with a supporting character than our dark & brooding hero.”

Finding that another seemed to have that same gift, gave her hope as a way to control it better. Prince Kourakin was so used to reading other peoples minds that he thought nothing of it, until he realized that the enchanting beauty that had just been in his mind was not of the same race as himself, a vampire. The search for the rouge vampire, the need to track down the newest vampire slayer and now he had to decide how to deal with this human, beautiful as she may be, but still she couldn’t be left knowing about his race.
The added combination of paranormal (vampires) and historical romance (set in 1871) was well done. Vampires and all the legends surrounding them could be summed up as legends, the book, the rituals, the ceremonies, the fight scene all down played (but still very well detailed) so that the romance, the emotion of the characters is what the plot of the story revolved around. That emotional link to the characters kept me reading this book (it should have taken much longer to read), I did not want it to end. I really enjoyed this genre and this writer. Couldn’t resist Angelica’s spirit or Alexander’s (for lack of a better word) - change. I would love to find out if Mina Hepsen has written any of this as a series, to visit or re-visit some of these characters would be fun.”
“This is a story about Angelica, a young girl who is able to read the mind of others. She has kept to herself because of the headaches she gets when she is in a crowd, being unable to control her curse. She must marry and secure a fortune for her and her brother, but when a stranger comes into her life things get complicated.”

There were quite a few mistakes in editing; the flow in many parts was terrible. It was an easy read, but I only finished it because I hate leaving books in the middle.
One of the characters was a red herring. One of the characters apparently had multiple personalities, because there was indication whatsoever that this person was the villain. It doesn't make for a good story if there's not even a hint. It came completely out of nowhere.
That said, the concept was really interesting. ”
