“This story takes place in the Colonies on Island 365 in the Tranquil Sea. The island is ran by 'Earth Mother' and her Corporation who controls the weather and sky color. There are 'Orderlies' to handle all people who do not want to follow the rules. However, Honor's family does not follow the rules. They ignore curfew and do not pray to Earth Mother. Her mother gets caught and her family saved her and they went on to hack the weather station and destroy the New Weather.
This book is very interesting, gripping and imaginative. It makes you want to continue on reading.
“ASSIGNMENT DUE 4/11:
Honor is different than all the other kids. Her family doesn't fit in. First there's the obvious, her family has four people while other families are only have three people. Second her name isn't right. she's not like the other H kids. Her H is silent. Honor feels out of place. Her parents act strange and are rebellious. They stay out late, take things they aren't supposed to take, and go places they aren't supposed to go. Her and her family came from the North and she has memories from the North that don't fit with the lessons she is learning in school. She is lonely and has no friends. They her parents get taken and she becomes an orphan. She goes to the bakery for her 14th birthday and sees an orderly who looks a lot like her mother and her friend, Helix, is explaining what Nature Mother (the "ruler" of everyone after the Flood) has done to get power and have everyone follow her. She ends up saving her mother and her parents start to overrule Nature Mother. The rebellion had begun. ”

“This book was amazing. It mixes suspense with mystery and wonder. But, when you put it all together, it makes an amazing dystopian novel.”Sarah Rose wrote this review Monday, February 21, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This was the slowest book I have read in a while and I didn't really enjoy it at all. I had to read it for English as a Sci-Fi book and I disliked it. ”Vivian T wrote this review Thursday, February 17, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“A tale of mystery and dark secrets, 'The Other Side of the Island' was an exiting and intriguing book. Although sometimes the reading became a bit sluggish and the book spent some time picking up dust on my bedside table, it was overall a good read, and a good distraction. The characters, their internal conflicts and their relationships with each other were especially interesting and attaching, one could relate well to them. I would recommend this to maybe 12 to 13 year olds rather than 14 and 15...”Astouline wrote this review Tuesday, February 8, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
