Didn’t Like It“True crime story of a Englishman who moves to the US, gets married and has a baby girl, only to kill the both of them when there were financial difficulties and then the coward flees back to England. True story 2006. Heartless & disturbing! But I guess most true crime novels are.” see full review » see other reviews » |

Yes | No“Michele McPhee's book on Neil Entwistle and the murder of his wife and baby daughter was written before the trial, which began just this week. Given that evidence from the trial often makes up a significant portion of any true crime story, McPhee deals with the lack of substantive information and pads the story with details about other crimes -- the crimes of the guy who kicked Entwistle in prison, the crimes of the other people Entwistle's lawyer had represented and the crimes of other cases the prosecutor has tried. While the stories were sometimes interesting, they were clearly intended to do nothing more than give McPhee something more to write about having exhausted the basics of her main story. The book is reasonably well-written, but I was personally turned off by her tendency to use sensationalistic language. I am convinced by her evidence that Entwistle is guilty of the murder, but show me that evidence and let me draw that conclusion, don't TELL me!”
