Yes | No“A twelve-year-old girl named Gratuity Tucci writes a short essay about the meaning of Smekday; that day commemorates when Earth was invaded by aliens and was renamed Smekland. Her essay grows into a much longer account of the events which involve her mother being abducted, befriending an fugitive alien Boov, traveling across the United States in a hovercar, witnessing another different alien race invading Earth, and eventually saving the world from the aliens. This lighthearted and humorous story is uniquely conveyed through text, comic panels, and illustrations. The story is full of adventurous situations, but the growing friendship between Gratuity and the Boov was the most interesting aspect. Readers who enjoy science-fiction with a focus on humor would find this book appealing. Although the book seems to be written for younger readers, there is occasional language in it that might offend some people. ”

After her mom is abducted by The Boov (an alien race, led by the Great Smek), she is left to her own devices. Unbeknownst to Tip, her mom was inadvertantly sending messages to the Boovs through a mole on her spine. All humans were to report to Florida...the only state humans were allowed to live in. Although most surviving humans were teleported to Florida, Tip decides to drive her mom's SUV there. Along the way, she stumbles upon J.Lo, a Boov in hiding. He accidentally contacted The Gorg, an evil, destructive group of beings. He knows the Boov leader will be ANGRY! J.Lo is a talented mechanic and helps Tip redesign her car into a hovercar. The two affectionately name it the Slushious. In Florida, Tip and J.Lo, along with Tip's cat, Pig, find out that all humans have been relocated to Arizona, after the Boovs become fond of wearing oranges, and decided to keep Florida for their own pleasure. Tip is determined to find her mom. The rest of the journey is a hilarious, complicated, and uniquely clever tale that ends in a reunion with her mom, redesigning a teleporter for human good, and saving the world from the evil invasion of the Gorgs. This is one of the most hilarious books I've read in a long time...I found myself laughing out loud all through the book. J.Lo is a hoot. The illustrations in the book make you giggle, yet add to the story tremendously. This one has to be made into a movie!”
