Along with Jane Eyre and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, this book is one of my three top all-time favorites. I've reread all three numerous times, and I never get tired of the story and the characters. Like the other two, this book deeply influenced my walk as a Christian and my desire to write with power and elegance.
