Sparks delivers again with another great story with another set of great characters, who's stories all get intertwined and weaved together somehow yet again. I have to admit Sparks has a way of really getting you emotionally involved in his stories, and it's hard to put the book down until...

Nicholas Sparks is an incredible author when it comes to making one feel emotions that seemed nonexistent. The novel, The Lucky One, does an exceptional job of keeping the reader intrigued through its numerous scenes of love, curiosity, and suspense. This book analyzes the difference between fate and destiny through many realistic characters and events. The story is told in third person about two significant people. Logan Thibault is a 25 year old U.S. Marine Sergeant. He is a quiet, laid back character who has a past of traumatic stress. While on base, he frightfully comes across an old, crinkled picture of a beautiful woman. He decides to keep this picture and carry it with him. After encountering many fortunate moments, he is convinced that the picture he keeps is his good luck charm. His desiring personality leads him to set out and find the girl who is in the photograph to help answer what he thinks is his destiny. He travels across the country and finally finds the distinct woman, Elizabeth “Beth” Green. Beth is a young, divorced woman with a young son named Ben. She is a teacher and lives with her grandmother, helping her run a kennel for animals. They are both in shock when they accidentally end up crazy for each other in just a short amount of time. However, Logan has decided to keep the photograph a secret for he believes that it is a threat to their affair. Is it fate or destiny that will determine their future? Sparks does an admirable job of keeping the reader fascinated because The Lucky One is not your typical love story. Through much imagery, conflicts, and foreshadowing, Nicholas Sparks gives a clear development of the themes fate, destiny, and luck. This novel would be recommended to anybody of any gender or age. Although some would assume that this is a chick flick, it is a considerable piece for males as well. Overall, this book is a well written work and an easy read. The amount of passion put into Nicholas Sparks’ writings reminds readers why his novels are so exquisite.

Logan the main character is in the army. When he is overseas fighting he sees this picture of a young girl. He stops to pick it up and when he did that an explosion went off. Because he had picked up the picture, he saved his life. He told him self when he gets out of the war he is going to find this woman and thank her. He got out of the war and went to where she lived and had ran a dog business. He got a job at the dog place but kept it a secret from her that he knew of her. Elizabeth, the young girl, is distance towards him and not sure how she feels about him. However her mother loves him and invites him inside their house. After a while they begin to bond and open up to one another. They begin dating. She still doesn't know about the picture. She finds the picture and is very upset because she said it was meant to keep her brother safe. Her brother had died in the war. They don't talk for a while because she is so upset. But finally she forgives him and they continue to fall in love.

I've watched the movie so I decided to give the book a go. So far, I'm on page 102. I enjoy reading stories about 2 people having a chance to meet each other and instantly knowing that they were meant together. “It was easy to idealize someone you barely knew.” - Logan found a photo of a girl, and he kept it with him during the wars in Vietnam. He survived everything, so he believed that the photo was a lucky charm. To thank the girl, he was going to find her and he ends up falling in love. The setting is very important in the story, as Logan hikes in the mountains leading to the area (Hampton) that Beth lives in. The characters are as important as the plot, since the personality of the characters enables Logan to find her. For example the police officer, that gave the address of Beth. Another important thing is the available job. Since Nana was looking for people to work in the dog shelter, this gave an opportunity for Logan to earn some money and most importantly – get to know Beth. Overall, I recommend this book to people with soft hearts and ones who enjoy reading perfect romances.

    Review two -
Now that I'm on page 200, I believe that the setting is crucial to the story. Without it, the story wouldn't have been the same. For example, Clayton (Beth's ex-husband) is stalking Beth and Logan. He is the douche-bag type of guy, he wants all the girls he can get, but at the same time possesses over them as well (disturbed if anyone else tries to get with his property). Beth finds out that the reason why none of her dates ever call her back for another one is because they are threatened by Clayton - which is what I thought was very interesting and daring. Beth is the sweet, caring, sensitive mom while Logan is the adventurous and handsome man who had a very hard past. As stereotypical as this sounds, I felt that since Sparks wrote about their love connection so well that he experienced it as well. That is why I enjoy reading Sparks novels so much, since he does not write crap. Another thing I like about this book is how the chapters are written by the third person view. For example, there are chapters with Elizabeth's, Logan's and Clayton's point of views. This is what makes the book so unique, since the events that took place in the novel were to be read by different perspectives. This gives me the prospect to connect with the characters and try to understand where they are coming from. Predominantly, the book can't be put down from my hand, and will be continued till the end.

Young man comes home from the military and looks for work in a small town, can't really think of a way to fit this in the middle school grades. Girls would probably enjoy it.

Maybe I've read enough of his books that they are getting predictable - but I still enjoyed it.
