'The Sicilian' is undoubtedly the best work of Puzo. Godfather had an urban setting which was the only edge it had over Sicilian with respect to popularity. All those who had read both the books would agree that Sicilian is the best. What a way of telling a tale. Its not any new way of expression but it is more like listening to a story from the mouth of a very intelligent man- the one who does not trust his own characters, nor does he trust himself ?....

a book which made me a puzo loyalist for life.................call it blasphemy but i still prefer the sicilian for sheer effect and emotion compared to the godfather........the use of the lupari, the guerrila lifestyle , the battle of good and evil all still clearly imprinted on my mind although i first read this book more than 10 years ago,..... on my young brain that was quite something else.............one wanted to be a superhero, a man that others admire, that people want to be loyal to , a man for whom others are willing to take lives and lay down their own, reading the book, one doesnt have to paint an image in front of oneself, you do not need an illustrated version to tell you what the protagonist looks like or what the paintings of his looked like.........it is an absolute masterpiece in vivid technicolour
