I can usually count on a Christopher Buckley book to have me in stitches. This one - not so much. The plot premise was clever, but just didn't seem to go anywhere - at least not anywhere I was interested in. Really dragged and I looked forward to getting it over with. Too bad - but he has...

Just for fun playing with humorous scenarios with the Supreme Court justices. The characters were interesting if broadly painted. It moved well. The end was a little too fast but the point is the funny situations.

Funny, satiric Buckley does it again, this time with the Supreme Court. Pepper is a real judge working as a t.v. judge when she is chosen by the president to serve on the Supreme Court. One disaster after another follows, a funny mishmash of political shenanigans.

One can only wish that Buckley could script out some of our real-life political happenings to make them come out right in the long run.

The audio version was read by Anne Heche who did a good job with a not-too-annoying Texas accent.

Hilarious. I could totally understand the cover and the graphics as I read!!! I don't know who I would choose, Judge Judy or Judge Milian. I would vote for Steve Wilkos to take care of business in the courts, for sure!!! Bowling, anyone?

Funny, but some parts were mind-numbingly dull.

I get the feeling Buckley wasn't trying as hard on this one... still funny, but some of the plot seemed too contrived to work.

This was the first book I had ever read by Buckley and he had me laughing out loud. The footnotes and his take on Washington and the judicial system are very interesting and perhaps even plausible. I definitely want to check out more books by this author.

The plot premise was clever, but just didn't seem to go anywhere - at least not anywhere I was interested in. Really dragged and I looked forward to getting it over with. Too bad - but he has many other books of comic genius, so I guess he's entitled to a misfire every once in a while.

Buckley knows Washington and takes his readers on a merry romp through its "hallowed halls." His focus this time out is on the Supreme Court and the appointment of an Associate Justice, but he has a delightful time skewering outrageously ambitious senators, the political process, the "angel on the head of a pin" decisions confronting the Court, reality TV shows, the media, to name only a few. At the center of the maelstrom is Pepper Cartwright, a TV judge (think Judge Judy with a Texas accent) nominated to serve on the Supreme Court. This was a fun book!
