The central figure in this book is a 11th century countess named Matilda who had the book and protected it. I love Mc Gowan's writing and how she...” see full review » see other reviews » |

The book has a lot of history, which is great. But the main focus of the book is the story of Jesus of Nazareth, his wife Mary Magdalene, and their teachings of the Way of Love. The author presents the idea that Jesus wrote The Book of Love, explaining that love and forgiveness should be the main focus of the faithful. A present day author is searching for The Book of Love, using historical documents and visions given by Jesus himself to track down it's whereabouts.
So much historical and religious detail is used to try and mesh the story together that it bogs the story down in places. I almost gave it up once or twice. But stick it out to the end, there are some surprises there. ”
“This series changed my outlook on religion, spirituality, and Christianity. Wow.”

A little on the formulaic side, meaning that the pattern of the storyline (back and forth between Maria of Tuscany and present day) seemed slightly stilted. Both Book of Love and Expected One are a little on the hokey side--and too much like Da Vinci Code. Peter mostly seemed like an extraneous character in both books. Still, no denying it's a good read. ”
