“The story is about a family called Hart who experience the death of a twin daughter, husband who couldn't bear his guilt, the son who runs away and the mother who can't reach out. The surviving twin goes in search of her lost brother in Mexico. I thought I would like this book but I really didn't think it was so great. The author spends a lot of the book telling about Mexico and the culture of Hispanic people. ”

After losing a family member to a similar ordeal, the story of Annie and her mother really hit home for me. I wish I could give this one 3 1/2 stars. The prose was often beautiful and surprising. The biggest complaint I have is that often the dialogue sounded forced. ”

Her search takes her to Oaxaca, where she meets Joe Cruz, a man grieving his own losses, and their search for Annie’s brother becomes a search for healing and forgiveness as well. COMMENTS: beautifully and tenderly written; deeply moving”
