“I am so dead... Now, was I supposed to go left or right at the Light? Seventeen-year-old Amber Borden has a lousy sense of direction—so lousy that she takes a wrong turn when returning from her near-death experience. She ends up in the body of the most popular girl in school, who has just tried to commit suicide. Can a girl who can't even navigate the halls of Halsey High discover the secrets of her new identity and find her way back to her own life? From the author of THE SEER Series

“Two series I'd heard about sounded kind of similar. This one (Dead Girl,) and Ghostgirl. Since I don't have time to read every intriguing-sounding book, I had a choice to make. I decided on Dead Girl.
In Dead Girl Walking, Amber Borden, a girl whose family isn't well off, yet who has dreams of becoming someone, takes a wrong turn at the light at the light when trying to return to her body after being hit by the mail truck which had just delivered the good news about her college acceptance. She ends up in the body of the rich and seemingly perfect Leah Montgomery. It turns out that Leah's life isn't what it looks like, which is what lead her to the suicide attempt that left both of their bodies vulnerable at the same time.
Amber has to figure out how to return to her body, first convincing a friend or two that despite the packaging, it really is Amber underneath, and discovering exactly what lead Leah to give up on life.
A quick and fun read, with a little bit of seriousness (beyond death, anyway,) that keeps it from being too fluffy.”
“Good YA read”

I also found the premise and characterization a little thin. I did appreciate that the author tried to avoid stereotypes though and point out that no matter how rich, popular, and pretty you are, there can still be problems.”

Directly after eavesdropping, learning how the populars view her, and finding out that she's received a collegiate scholarship, an out-of-control mail truck hits Amber.
Despite her severe injuries, she doesn't die. Exactly.
Instead, her soul ends up in the body of a fellow classmate: Queen B Leah. Leah just attempted suicide and Amber's desperately trying to adapt to this new life. She's dying to know why the most popular girl in school hates life. Slowly, Amber uncovers layers of Leah's life and realizes that things aren't always wonderful for the school's golden girl.
When Amber realizes that she might never escape Leah's body, she attempts to make some major adjustments.
Linda Joy Singleton starts up a new series with DEAD GIRL WALKING, where she perfectly combines the hardship of teen life with a paranormal aspect, immediately hooking readers.

There's this girl who almost died, but her deceased grandmother saved her before she died, kind of. She saved her spirit. There was also this other girl who attempted suicide. The first girl, Amber, took a wrong turn going back to her body, and that saved the other girl! Read this book to find out if Amber makes it back to her own body!!”
