“Belle is the classic fairytale with a twist. It is told from the view of the youngest daughter in a wealthy European family. When the family’s trading company goes downhill they are forced to move away. They start to live in the country, when legends get the better of the youngest daughter who wanders into the woods, and meets a beast. Her father is supposedly indebted to him…
I liked it as a whole. The twist on the fairy tale with legends, and cultures was neat. I liked how realistic the first third or so, of it was.
I did not like how suddenly they threw the beast into what was before a more realistic story. (I had read several other books like this in the series, and the genius behind them was how real they had been able to make the story seem, even though they were initially fairy tales.) The characters were like able, except the beast. As a whole, it was good, but there were some disappointing things in it.
“I loved this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While some may find it a bit boring and slow, I thought it was beautiful. When I finished the last page, i turned right back to the front and read it again.”Maggie wrote this review Saturday, March 31, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Interesting.. but the author failed in showing how Belle and the Beast connected and gradually grew into loving each other..
It was.. too rushed!”
“okay - I love fairy tale retellings especially about my favorite fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. This one is good, but not one of the best ones I have read.”Krissy B wrote this review Thursday, December 1, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This book was really intresting I think the book should have had Belle have more time with the beast and not as much with her family. The book was really happy it seemed like it didn't have a bit of sadness.”Heather L wrote this review Monday, October 31, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Synopsis: "Belle is convinced she has the wrong name, as she lacks her sisters' awe-inspiring beauty. So she withdraws from society, devoting her time to wood carving. Secretly, Belle longs to find the fabled Heartwood Tree. If carved by the right hands, the Heartwood will reveal the face of one's true love.
During a fierce storm, Belle's father stumbles upon the mysterious Heartwood—and encounters a terrifying and lonely Beast. Now Belle must carve the Heartwood to save her father, and learn to see not with the eyes of her mind, but with the eyes of her heart"
My Review I really enjoyed this book. I liked that it was written kind of as a conversation/story telling, but it did seem to get a little lost at times. I also liked how the beauty and the beast part of the story wasn't the main story line, it was just the means in which she came to understanding her own beauty and value. The scene and character development was great and you could really connect with Belle”
