Liked It “This is the most recent and possibly last mystery novel by James. This again focuses on Adam Dalgliesh and his team and once again the characters are fantastic. Her stock characters irked me more this time than usual as did the appearance of some of her favorite words. It's not generous of me to say, but I don't feel Dalgliesh should partner up. She is erudite, imaginative and very much steeped in the English mystery tradition, but she fall short with this one. I had the regrettable feeling she wrote it to satisfy a contract. The plot was ok, but there was no sense of author engagement with the text and it sort of spun to the end as if on rails.”
