“I am a teen and i read it. I thought it was really interesting to see the circumstances that led to things that are, well, outliers. To susan r, i think to your question, the answer is both. It would be like arguing chicken or egg, though. ”
“did you think the author had a point to prove or proved a point?”
“This actually explains the connection between autism and savantism -- if you've got Asperger's and do something day and night for years, of COURSE you're gonna be a world expert.”
“I like the 10000 hour theory and think that is probably true, the time you apply to something the better you will get, with perserverance through the tough times. A great incite into the work ethic of some cultures, great book I would recommend it, I enjoyed it more than Blink or the Tipping point but I might re-read them again.”
“This book is a great book for adults who need advice on life. To me, it is a book about second chance and how to become an outlier or a person who is not average. You don't have to do everything the book tells you. But at least try to put the ideas in your life. ”
“I don't think he's saying not to involve your kids in hockey unless they're Capricorns; he's saying you'll have to work with them yourself to get them the 10,000 hours, because the coaches won't give it to the youngest kids. I think it would have been useful for him to examine what's different about the Libras who make the big leagues. Do they practice on their own, take separate lessons, or what?”
“This is an interesting read full of intriguing information. The most important piece of individual information is the 10,000 hour theory. Using the information, however, to deter your child from pursuing a sport like hockey because they are born in the last half of the year is absurd. It is useful in considering some of the less obvious things that they may have to overcome to be successful in a particular field. Rather that calculating what skill you have the best chance of being successful at, better to "do what you love and love what you do!"”
“This book was outstanding! I was told by a friend that i should read this and at first i was not very enthusiastic about reading it. the more i read though, the more interested i became in the story. the way the author describes the 10,000 hour rule is very creative and very on point with what i believe is how it actually works. the author doesn't only make comments based off of his opinion but also off the actual facts and supports his thoughts with facts. I give this book an A+.”
“When I got it couldn't wait to start it, but then the 1st few chapter were a bit depressing, saying that brilliance and opportunity is all that is needed to 'make it' in this world. But then by the end of it, it's quiet refreshing that no matter what's your background you can still make it. You don't need to be an 'outlier'. ”
“I liked it, didn't love it. I think, interestingly enough, it offers some insightful material on the way you raise your kids and the way you treat future generations. ”
