A great biography of the life of Wangari Matthai, an extraordinary woman with the spiritual strength of a thousand men. Her story starts in Africa and describes her upbringing. Truly enlightening and written with style, this autobiography is worth the read.

Didn’t Like It

Our book club read UNBOWED by Wangari Maathia. She was the first "environmentalist" to win the Nobel Peace Prize (and we selected this prior to Al Gore's win). This is her autobiography. I probably should be ashamed to say this, but at times I was bored to tears by this book (where did that phrase come from?). She wrote her incredible story in such a matter-of-fact manner that one has to remember how incredible it is / she is, Ms. Maathia is a Kenyan, educated by Catholic nuns there, then...
